• Initial protection is achieved with one single dose of vaccine. The vaccine should preferably be given at least two weeks before departure, but can be given up to the day of departure. Protective levels of antibody may not be reached until 14 days after administration of the vaccine
• In order to provide long-term protection, a second dose (booster) of an inactivated hepatitis A vaccine should be given. The second dose is preferably given between 6 and 12 months, but may be administered up to 36 months after the first dose.
